Alma Parks and Trails Meetings
Frontier MPO, Western Arkansas Planning and Development District and City of Alma to Conduct Public Participation Meetings Regarding Parks and Trails in Alma
Collaboration Seeking to Identify Potential Outdoor Park and Trails Needs
ALMA, AR, June 9, 2017 – The City of Alma has teamed with the Frontier Metropolitan Planning Organization (FMPO) and Western Arkansas Planning and Development District (WAPDD) to conduct a series of public participation meetings seeking citizen’s opinions on outdoor park and recreation needs as well as pedestrian and bike trails in Alma.
“The City of Alma is very thankful to have the WAPDD and FMPO teams working with our community in the development of plans for parks and trails,” explained City of Alma Planning Director Buddy Gray. “This process relies on community input in the development and implementation of plans for future parks and trails. I have seen great interest from our residents in the past few months for the expansion of our parks and the connectivity of these parks with a multi-use trails system. I expect a great turnout for this event and look forward to the ideas for the future that will be shared.”
A cycle of interactive meetings will be held throughout the City of Alma. The initial meeting will be held on June 19th at the Alma Community Building. The final meeting will be held on July 13th at the Alma Performing Arts Center. All meetings are from 5:00 – 7:00 pm.
“Parks and trails are a key component of community development which goes hand in hand with economic development.,” stated WAPDD Director of Community Development Tracee McKenna. “You can’t have one without the other. It all starts with the community and their input is vital to making a project work.”
